Proofing Your Project

The proofing process is critical to your project’s success. Not only for the quality of your project, but the timely completion too!

The most important section to proof is the contact information. While text errors describing your product or service could be ignored by a client, an error in your phone number, email address or website can terminate a relationship or prevent a contact!

Check all content twice, but triple check your contact information.

Types of Proofs

You have the option of receiving a digital or printed proof. The digital option is faster, but there are two pitfalls of which to be aware:

1. The color on your monitor will not accurately reflect the color on the final printed piece.

2. The size will likely not be 100% accurate. For example, if you preview a business card on your monitor and it fills your entire screen, it’ll appear much larger than it really is. If you’re proofing a new design, you should print it on your printer at actual size to review.

We can also provide a printed proof. The only draw back is that the process is not as fast as a digital proof.

Proofing Checklist

o Verify that all pages are in the proof with proper order and page numbers.

o Check all images and photos for placement and quality.

o Review fonts.

o Is the text crisp and spaced properly? (see blog for more details.)

o Are the margins and bleeds correct? (see blog for more details.)

o Triple check all names, addresses, emails, websites, and telephone numbers. Scan QR codes and check the content for accuracy.

o Double check spelling and punctuation.

o Verify that colors are correct, especially PMS (Pantone Matching System) numbers, if applicable).

o Measure the final trim size and check folds for accuracy. We can provide a printed proof, trimmed and folded for review.

o Verify any finishing elements like die-cuts, embossing, foils, varnishes, etc.

o Confirm the final paper stock

Proofing a QR Code

Tying in your printed materials with digital content is a great way to improve the impact of your marketing materials. A QR code is simply a picture, so you’ll need your smart phone to decode it. We scan the code on multiple phones using different apps in our shop, but it’s imperative that you proof it as well.

Did you know that you can scan the code on your phone directly off of your computer screen? You can! But sometimes the lighting in the room will make that difficult. In those cases, just hold your hand over the phone to block some of the ceiling lights.

When proofing, in addition to reading the text content, please click on the different buttons to verify that they bring up the website address that you wanted, check the email address, and/or verify that the map brings up your location.

If you follow these steps, you’ll greatly increase the probability of creating a perfect project and your project will be ready for you sooner!

Please post any questions or comments that you may have or give us a call! We’ll be happy to help.

Thanks!
